By permission of Meath County LibraryWhen your grandparents went to primary school they did not have a uniform. However, they were expected to be dressed respectably. All the boys wore short trousers. Only teenage boys wore long trousers back then.
In all the schools the pupils' daily attendance was kept in a class register or roll book.
The roll call would usually take place first thing in the morning at assembly. Many of these roll books are kept in the Archives in the County Library in Navan.
