Three name changes
The Navan Free School for boys was established in 1817 to educate poor boys in the Parish.
In 1917 the De La Salle Brothers came to Navan and were put in charge of running the school. this photo above is of some of the pupils in 1920.

By permission of Meath County LibraryThe school moved from the Banba Hall to the old militia barracks down by the river and was called St. Columba's Abbey.
In the 1950s Spicers gave land for a new school to be built and it was called Scoil Mhuire.
Third to sixth classes were taught at the school and the younger boys went to school in the convents.

A new school was built in the 1970s. The brothers left Navan in 1976 and lay teachers came to work in the school instead.
