Rossmore Monument, Monaghan
In the 1870s, the decorative Victorian octagonal Rossmore Monument usurped the Old Cross as Monaghan town's central monument. It was erected to commemorate the 4th Baron Rossmore. It is made from red sandstone, granite, sandstone and various types of marble. The letters of 'Rossmore' are spaced out around the monument.

In the middle of the Diamond stands a striking monument. It is called the Rossmore Memorial, and was erected in honour of the 4th Baron Rossmore. He died in 1874 in an accident while riding in a steeplechase, at the young age of twenty-two.
