Sligo fiddlers such as Michael Coleman and James Morrison played an important part in reviving traditional music in Ireland through the recordings they made when living in America.
These recordings preserved the special Sligo style of playing, as well as helping to make Irish traditional music popular in the United States. The flute was always important in Sligo as well, and now other instruments are becoming more and more common there.
Other types of music are also on the increase in Sligo today, from jazz to classical and contemporary styles. Read on to find out more about music and musicians in Sligo.
