Sligo Festival of Baroque Music
The Sligo Festival of Baroque Music first took place in October 1995. A series of concerts take place over the Bank Holiday weekend each year. The festival includes international performers as well as Irish musicians, and finishes with a performance by the model Baroque Youth Orchestra.
The Model Baroque Youth Orchestra is made up of young musicians from Sligo. They take part in weekly classes given by professional musicians, and finish their lessons with this public performance at The Sligo Festival of Baroque Music.
Sligo Academy of Music
The Sligo Academy of Music was set up by Niamh Crowley in 2000 to give children in Sligo and the surrounding area the chance to play classical music. The Academy gives classes to 350 students in both individual and group lessons for all ages and levels.
The students give concerts regularly from when they first start learning their instrument. The Academy has two orchestras, and some of the students are also involved in the National Youth Orchestras of Ireland.
