Copyright Sligo County Library.W.B. Yeats died in France in 1939. He had wished to be buried in Drumcliffe churchyard in Sligo and so in 1948, he was buried there. Eamon De Valera attended W.B. Yeats funeral.
In Under Ben Bulben, Yeats makes his wishes known:
"Under bare Ben Bulben's head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid"
As outlined further on in the same verse, his epitaph reads:
"Cast a cold Eye
On Life, on Death.
Horseman, pass by!"
