© South Dublin Libraries.South County Dublin was mainly a rural area until the 1970s. This meant most people bought their clothes in drapery shops in local villages or from local dressmakers or markets. Travelling to Dublin was not as easy as it is today, so shopping trips to the city centre were much rarer.
Today, most people buy their clothes in suburban shopping centres or city centre high streets. In the present day, clothes are more casual than they were in our grandparents' time.

Compared to the old photos in this section, do you think the children themselves look more comfortable with the camera?
