Cashel Palace
`
The Cashel Palace Hotel was originally a manor house built in 1730 by Archbishop Theophilus Bolton. It was designed by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce. Pearce also designed the old House of Parliament in Dublin, which is now the Bank of Ireland, College Green. In style, the Cashel Palace is a mix of Queen Anne and Early Georgian. It has a red brick front with limestone at the rear, which was rare for its period.

For much of the nineteenth century, a small number of wealthy people owned most of the land in Ireland. They often lived in castles or large manor houses.
Over the last 100 years, wealth has become more evenly distributed. Many of the old big houses have fallen out of use, and some were burned down during the Irish War of Independence. However, many remains of big houses can still be seen around Co. Tipperary, both in the countryside and the towns.
Although most of these castles and houses have fallen into ruin, some have been refurbished and are in use as grand dwellings or hotels. The Cashel Palace Hotel, pictured to the right, is now a luxury hotel.
