Image courtesy of Údarás na GaeltachtaSituated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Drum Hills, Gaeltacht na nDéise has a very strong tradition in the Irish language, heritage and culture. There are two areas within this Gaeltacht, An Rinn and An Sean Phobal.
A Gaeltacht is a region where the Irish language is spoken on a daily basis. In the last census that was carried out in 2006, it was shown that about 40% of people in the Waterford Gaeltacht area spoke the language on a daily basis. The Gaeltacht has a population of about 1,500 people. An Rinn and An Sean Phobal are located about 5 miles south west of Dungarvan town in CountyWaterford.

Coláiste na Rinne is an all-Irish national and summer school which opened in 1905. It is located in the Gaeltacht area of County Waterford.

Image courtesy of Waterford County ImagesThis Gaeltacht area is served by an all-Irish primary school called Coláiste na Rinne, which was opened in 1905. It also runs a summer course during the summer for secondary school students who wish to improve their Irish.
The school has helped to develop the Irish language in Waterford and there is now a strong tradition of creative writing through Irish in the region.
