Annie went to London for a short period, but for her Wexford was always home.
Annie has some happy memories of childhood games, but did not enjoy her first day at school, or the first teacher she had. She was only three years old at the time. Despite this, Wexford remains the place where she belongs.
Here Annie writes expressively and movingly about her feelings for her home place:
'It doesn't matter whether I go away for a day or a week, I still feel the same. As I am returning it's like my heart is willing me closer and closer. My body relaxes and I know a smile has appeared on my face because I feel it inside. Why? I am nearing my destination. "Nearly there", I say to myself, as we drive through Castlebridge. I will soon see my most favourite sight: Wexford Bridge with its lights guiding me safely home.
Home, to where my family are waiting.'
