In 1883 a steam tramway operated between Dublin and Lucan.

Soon after the line was extended to Leixlip and came as far as Leixlip Bridge.

Around 1892, a terminus was built outside The Salmon Leap Inn, facing the bridge.

In 1890 travel time from Conyngham Road to Leixlip was about one hour.

The steam tram service to Leixlip continued to 1897, when the line was electrified as far as Lucan only. Private buses followed.

Question Time

Hope you are learning lots about transport in Leixlip. I have a question for you. What advantages would a present day tram service from Leixlip to Dublin have?
