Work in the Workhouse
Image 1:
I visited the house on Saturday the 11th Inst. and found it in a tolerably clean condition. In several of the Dormitories however the paupers were engaged in washing and scouring the floor etc. at four o'clock in the afternoon. - It is highly important that the washing of the floors etc. should be finished at an early hour in the day, in order that they may be thoroughly dried before the Paupers enter them for the night. - Otherwise the health of the inmates could not but be endangered. -
Samuel Horsley
Union Inspector
Dec 13th 1847.
