Parachutes
One of the experiments you have just done is very similar to what parachutes actually do.
What is the aim of a parachute? To make something:
Gravity pulls a parachute down, but as it falls air gets trapped under the canopy (the sheety thing). The trapped air pushes up against the canopy, making the parachute fall slowly.
