Mythical Maze Summer Reading for children!

This year, our libraries have seen a big increase in children taking up our invitation to take part in our Summer Reading Challenge.

The theme for 2014 is Mythical Maze created by top illustrator Sarah McIntyre.

Mythical Maze challenges children aged four to eleven to find their way around a labyrinth that introduces them to fantastical creatures from the world of legend and mythology, collecting stickers of each character along the way. Taking part is easy. All you have to do is read six books to explore the maze and meet some weird and wonderful creatures from myths and legends along the way. Every time you read two books, you can collect a prize and a new set of stickers from the library to reveal some amazing creatures!

There is still plenty of time to complete this free challenge! Drop into any Library for your pack. The challenge ends on August 23rd.

New Books Published locally:

We would like to draw your attention to two little gems recently published by the Newpark Resource Centre, supported by a grant from the Kilkenny Borough Council: “Other things my granny said” and as gaeilge  “Seanfhocail mo sheanmháthar”. Priced at only €5 for the two books, they bring us back in time, and remind us of our rich spoken heritage. Remember quips such as “A wild goose never reared a gosling” or Is minic a bhris beal duine a shrón” (A person’s mouth often broke his nose).

Well done to all who participated in this project - pick up a copy at the Centre! Or borrow from your Library.
