File Formats

Europeana seeks to reach the widest possible audience across Europe and the world. As a result, the ideal file formats in which to publish material accessed via Europeana are those formats which have the widest support:

• Jpeg, GIF and PNG for images
• PDF for text/image combinations
• Plain ASCII for text
• MP3 for music
• MPEG and AVI for video

However, we don't suggest that you rebuild or otherwise change your content for Europeana, unless it also meets a broader strategic aim for your organisation.
