Clare Archaeological Centre

The Clare Archaeological Centre is situated at Dysert O'Dea Castle, the ancestral stronghold of the O'Dea clan. It has received several awards since it opened in the mid 1980s. The site of the castle was once a monstastic settlement from the Middle Ages. Among the most notable features of the location are a Romanesque doorway, a round tower and a high cross which is among the best of its type remaining in the country. There are more than two dozen archaeological sites nearby that feature on a historial and archaelogical walk. Visitors can avail of a souveneir shop and guided tours of the locality.
