Colmcille Heritage Centre
The Colmcille Heritage Centre is themed on the life of St. Colmcille who was a leading patriarch of the early Christian Irish monastic movement and who converted Scotland to Christianity. The exhibits include artistic banners, stained glass, illustrated panels and artifacts. There is a wax model of a monk in authentic period costume. A feature which shows the process of illuminating manuscripts step by step. The life of St. Colmcille is recounted accompanied by an audio-visual display.
Another exhibit is a tapestry telling the story of the infamous Derryveagh Evictions in the 19th century when Captain 'Jack' Adair, a local landlord, evicted scores of families from their homes.
