Flight Of The Earls Heritage Centre
In the aftermath of the English defeat of the Gaelic Irish at Kinsale, in 1607 the Earl of Tyrconnell, Rory O' Donnell and the Earl of Tyrone, Hugh O'Neill left Rathmullan, Co. Donegal with ninety of their followers including the leading Gaelic families in Ulster. The event left the path open for James II to plant Ulster with English and Scottish Protestant settlers. The subsequent history of Ulster was marked by centuries of ethnic and religious strife. The Flight of the Earls Heritage Centre in Rathmullan has exhibitions, displays including wax figures dressed in period costumes, period weapons, models, maps and literature and much more.
