Áras an Uachtaráin
Built in 1751 in the Phoenix Park, the sprawling mansion later became the Vice Regal Lodge and home of the Lord Lieutenant, the British Viceroy in Ireland. Áras an Uachtaráin as it came be known was taken over by the Irish Free State as the official residence of the Irish President following independence from Great Britain. Open to the public on Saturdays, approximately 5,200 people view the formal rooms and grounds every year. State visits and official guests are recieved by the President at state functions while about 11,000 others are invited to the 'Áras,' as it is popularly known, every year.
