Nora Barnacle House
Built in the 1800s, Nora Barnacle House is the turn of the 20th century homeplace of Nora Barancle, her mother and six siblings. She left for Dublin in 1904 where she and the young writer James Joyce met for the first time on 10th of June before falling madly in love by the 16th. The couple would later travel through Europe together before Joyce wrote his world famous Dublin based novel Ulysses set on the 16th of June 1904! Sadly the Barnacle homeplace was derelict until the 1980s when it was purchased and restored to its earlier condition and opened to the public. It has since attracted large numbers of Joycean enthusiasts.
