Muckross Traditional Farms
Muckross Traditional Farms
Muckross Traditional Farms are situated only a couple of hundred yards from Muckross House in the centre of Killarney National Park. The aim of this outdoor development is to portray Irish rural life during the 1930s and 1940s, before the introduction of widespread electrification and mechanisation. The differences in social standing between the ‘small’ (Kissanes), ‘middle sized’ (Foley’s) and ‘strong’ farmers (Quilles) are illustrated by three agricultural holdings of various sizes. There is also a labourer’s cottage(O’ Connors), blacksmith’s forge, harness maker’s workshop and a carpenter’s workshop. Transport around the Traditional Farms is supply by our Vintage Coach, which is equipped with a wheelchair for the physically challenged.
