The Old Barracks
Built between 1870 and 1875, the Old Barracks housed the Royal Irish Constabulary. According to legend, it was built from the plans for a British barracks in India that got mixed up. Today is a heritage centre for the Iveragh Peninsula. Various exhibitions cover the expansions of the Great Southern and Western Railway, the life and career of 'The Liberator' Daniel O'Connell, the activities of the Fenian Brotherhood, the 1916 Rising and the heroic Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' who rescued Jews from the Nazis in Second World War Italy.
