Quaker Meeting House Museum
The Quaker Meeting House is situated in Ballitore, Co. Kildare. Quakers or the Religious Society of Friends have lived in Ireland since the 17th century and were involved in the wool and flour mill industry. Ballitore in time became known as the 'Quaker Village.' In 1726, Abraham Shackleton opened the school and its pupils included Edmund Burke, Cardinal Paul Cullen and Napper Tandy. The museum tells to the often overlooked story of the Irish Quaker community.
