The mosaic decorations, reminisicent of the Eastern Orthodox style, were the work of the Russian artist Boris Anrep. One of the mosaics is of St. Anne and the face of the saint is based on the face of Anna Akhmatova, an aclaimed Soviet era poet. The cathedral was the first to be consecrated to Christ The King by Pope Pius XI.
