Father Murphy Centre
Fr. John Murphy, a native of Boolavogue, Co. Wexford was a leading member of the United Irishmen rebellion which broke out in Wexford in 1798. The bloody rebellion was finally defeated at the Battle of Vinegar Hill. Fr. Murphy was captured and executed. His inspired military leadership and martyr's death made him an Irish hero. He became the subject of a famous ballad Boolavogue. The Father Murphy centre is situated in what is reputed to be the Murphy family home. As well as the history of the 1798 rebellion, the centre covers rural and country life with a series of farming implements and other antique artifacts from times past.
