St. Connell's Museum

St. Connell's Museum and Heritage Centre, Glenties, is a repository of the local past. The heritage centre takes its name from St. Connell Caol who founded a monastery on Inniskeel Island in the 6th century. Among the exhibits at the museum included the prison cells which were part of the 19th century courthouse. There are also artefacts from the 19th century Irish Potato Famine which hit South West Donegal particularly hard. Open throughout the year, it includes guided tours.
