Folk life, farming, fishing and housing

This section of the survey contains descriptions of both the older and more modern types of dwellings that would be typical of the Island. The structural elements of the houses and the overall design are described in detail. Farming and fishing methods and systems of land tenure are also outlined and there are notes on crafts such as basketry and currach-making. These crafts had a primarily practical emphasis as they were used in farming and fishing, for instance lobster-pots, creels etc. To read the full text click here.
