Cold Water Corals
The deep water territory along the edges of the Continental Shelf around the Irish coast are home to a recently discovered wonderland of cold water corals displaying all the variety of animal life normally associated with tropical coral reefs. Expeditions have been conducted by the Marine Institute, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and NUI Galway using a deepwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to map and film to these important and sensitive ecological areas.
