"Broney's Meadow" or "Bronach's lawn"
This parish is partly in the barony of Ardagh but mainly in the barony of Granard. The area of the Ardagh section is 482 acres; of the Granard section, 12,225 acres.
Clongesh Cluain Géil
"lawn of the swan, or of the prohibition"
This parish is situated in the barony of Longford, on the road from Longford to Carrick-on-Shannon and on the rivers Camlin and Shannon. It contains 12,832 acres including 296 acres of the River Shannon. There was formerly a church in Clongeish, probably founded by St Elither who was the founder of this parish. In 1837, Fr. O'Beirne placed the parish ( now Newtownforbes) under the tutelage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Elither's feast day falls on April 25th. ( McGiveney).
Columbkille Paráiste Choluim Cille
"parish of St. Columbkille"
This parish is situated on Lough Gowna, in the barony of Granard. It contains 20,313 acres, including 1,747 acres of Lough Gowna and 55 acres of small loughs.
The parish of Columbkille got it's name from the church on Inch Mór, Lough Gamhna built by or dedicated to St. Columcille, who was the son of Feilmid who was grandson of Conal Gulban who was the youngest of the eight sons of Niall of the nine hostages. (McGiveney).
