This parish is situated in the baronies of Moydow, Ardagh and Shrule and is surrounded by rh parishes of Moydow, Taghsheenod, Agharra, Rathreagh and Ardagh. It has two villages, Legan and Carrickboy, two demesnes, one at the Glebe House and the other at Park House. Slieve Calry Mountain is in it's southwest side.

This parish is situated in the west of the county bordering the River Shannon. It lies in the baronies of Longford and Moydow and is bounded by the parishes of Clongesh, Ballymacormick, Kilcommock and Rathcline. It comprises 3,701 acres of the barony of Longford including 207 acres of the River Shannon and 10,726 acres of the barony of Moydow including 49 acres of the River Shannon.

This parish lies in the north of the county, in the baronies of Granard and Longford.
County Leitrim lies on it's northern and along much of it's western boundary. County Cavan lies on it's north east border. It is bounded on the east by the parishes of Columbkille and Clonbroney, on the south east by Mostrim and on the south west by Ardagh, Templemichael and Clongesh.
