Newspapers 1800-1829
Newspaper files held by Carlow County Library listed in chronological order. Finn's Leinster Journal was published in Kilkenny but has some content relevant to Carlow. This paper was continued as Leinster Journal from 22nd August 1801-10th March 1830. (Carlow County Library holdings end at 1812). There are no newspaper holdings for the years 1813 and 1820. The Moderator was a Kilkenny newspaper. It too changed its name to Kilkenny Moderator in September 1822-1919 and reverted to Moderator 1920-August 1925. The Carlow Morning Post was founded in Castle Street, Carlow. In 1818 it moved to 55 Dublin Street and was printed and published by Richard Price. Carlow County Library holds all of the surviving copies of this paper. The Freeman's Journal was a national newspaper. The Kilkenny Independent was published only during the years c 1825-1828. It can be noted that Carlow County Library holds three newspaper titles for the year 1828.
