Closure

There was considerable local opposition to the planned closure of the line but the decision would not be altered. The line was closed on December 31st 1960. The last scheduled trains did not run to avoid demonstrations.

The last train left the Manor Street Station in Waterford at 1:25 p.m. it was driven by a Paul Daniels of Alphonsus Road . Dick Sweeney of Tycor Avenue drove the very last train to Tramore to pick up furniture and other items from the station.

On New Years Day 1961 the bridge over the road at Pickardstown was demolished. On March 18th, all the coaches were removed and on May 30th 1961 the last of the rails were lifted. The era of the Waterford to Tramore Railway was over.
