Suir Valley Heritage Railway

The Suir Valley Railway Company operates a narrow gauge railway for recreational use along a six mile stretch from the station at Kilmeaden into Carriganore. The Railway is a community heritage project with charity status. The volunteer crew operates the railway.

The track runs along the bank of the River Suir and offers views of picturesque country side as well as the famous Mount Congreve Gardens. The Suir Valley Railway plan to lay more tracks in the future to Gracedieu in Waterford City and the long term aim is to bring the railway into the heart of Waterford City to Grattan Quay.

The Company has two locomotives and two Edwardian style carriages which travel at 15km per hour. One of the locomotives is a restored Simplex which worked in the peat industry in the North of England and Scotland. The restored track is narrow gauge measuring three feet.
