The Wateford Way
The 30 mile stretch of abandoned railway line between Waterford City and Dungarvan is set to be developed as a walking cum cycling route – the Waterford Way. Waterford County Council in conjunction with Waterford Sports Partnership view the old railway line as a unique tourist attraction and plan to develop it by 2006.
The planned walking route would start in the centre of Dungarvan Town and embark on a scenic course along which one would see panoramic views of Dungarvan Bay, the Comeragh and Monavullagh Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the Suir Valley.
In many places the line runs at a higher level than the surrounding country side providing aerial views from the spectacular eight arched viaducts at Durrow, Kilmacthomas and Ballyvoile.
