Carving of St. Patrick in Patrickswell
Dr. Joyce has had a keen interest in preserving folk customs and traditions throughout his life. He frequently made appeals to his readers to submit old songs and poems as well as information on traditions and customs which were no longer practiced. Over the 58 years of his column, he published a multitude of old songs and traditions, such as the celebration of St. Patrick's Day in County Limerick over the centuries and has preserved these in print for future generations.
