Overview: Life and Society in Ireland
This section will explore Irish life and society, the events that have shaped its people and culture, and the main Irish institutions that have created a vibrant and active country. It will include a brief overview of major historical events that have changed Ireland dramatically over a long period, from emancipation from English rule to a self-governing republic. This section will also observe how modern Ireland is governed today set out by the Irish Constitution, and explores its government and Head of State.
Ireland is also rich in culture and has contributed significantly to the arts which is recognised on an international level. This section will explore some aspects of Irish culture including its music and film industries and Ireland’s considerable interest in sport.
