Milford Mills Fire 1862
Account of the fire of November 4th 1862 which totally destroyed the flour mills at Milford, County Carlow. The mill wheel valued at the time at £1,000 was saved. The entire stock of corn was completely destroyed. The mills had recently been refitted and refurbished under the supervision of William Fairbairn of Manchester.

Half yearly report of John Benjamin McNeill to the Directors of the Irish South Eastern Railway dated 10th April 1847. He is most satisfied with the work as it had progressed to the point that the line from the Carlow-Kilkenny Boundary to Newhouse had been marked out. Estimates were still in preparation for bridges and culveits.

Sir John Benjamin MacNeill
Sir John Benjamin MacNeill
Sir John Benjamin MacNeill was born in County Louth circa 1793. He became a principal assistant to Thomas Telford who was working on road and bridge building in Scotland and England. He set up in business as a consulting engineer in 1834. He was elected the first Professor of Civil Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. He held this post from 1842-1852. He became Chief Engineer of the Great Southern and Western Railway. MacNeill designed Carlow Railway Station. In later life he went blind. He died in London on March 2nd, 1880.
