Bullock Harbour (today)
Bullock Harbour dates from the fourteenth century. The monks of St. Mary's Abbey built the harbour and they extracted a toll of fish from all who used the harbour. The history of the harbour has been eventful and includes an attack by Royalist Troops in 1641.

Monasterboice High Cross
Wright made a most comprehensive record of ‘St. Boyn’s Cross’, as he called it, providing elevations of both the broad faces and the sides (Louthiana Bk. III, XI-XIII). While his drawings of the individual scenes are not particularly well rendered, they are the earliest detailed record of this magnificent cross. We have combined two of his drawings to form this illustration.

Ground floor plan and a sectional view of Roodstown Castle (from Buckley and Sweetman 1991, Fig. 257). Note the void in the north-western turret: this is the chute from the latrines on the 2nd and 3rd storeys which vents externally at the base of the castle wall.
