Rathmichael burial grounds
This burial ground is part of an important early religious settlement in the area. The whole area was enclosed within a circular wall and included a church, graveyard, well and Round Tower. The church stood on a hill and the tower was built beside it as a refuge for the settlement in case of attack.

Tully Church
Tully Church
This church has not been used since 1641 and only the ruins remain today. There is a possible connection with St.Brigid, although this has not been proven. The church dates from the ninth century or possibly earlier. It was granted to the 'Priory of the Holy Trinity' in 1179.

The tram- lines are clearly visible in the picture and they curve away from Findlater's shop to make room for deliveries. The distinctive clock, a feature of the Findlater's chain is just visible in the left background.

Rathmichael Round Tower
The remains of this tower indicate that Rathmichael was an important religious settlement. The tower was built to protect the treasures of the church and the monks who would have lived beside the church. It is one of only four recorded in Dublin. It dates from the ninth century and was located beside the church.

Killiney Hill Obelisk
Killiney Hill Obelisk
Killiney Hill Obelisk was built in 1742. The local landlord John Mapas initiated the building of the obelisk as part of a general relief scheme for the poor in the area. Severe winter conditions at the time meant that work was difficult to find. The obelisk has undergone many alterations since its inception, the initial work having been carried out by mostly unskilled workers.

Bullaun Stone, Kilternan
Bullaun stones are stones containing one or more depressions made into the stone. The originated in the Neolithic period although most of the remains have been found in early monastic sites. They have a strong superstitious link and there original function is not clear. They were also known as 'cursing stones'. Another feature worth mentioning from this image is a twelfth century round-headed window

Dún Laoghaire Baths (Copy)
The baths date from the 1790s but they were removed in 1836 when the railway line was built. In 1843 the Royal Victorian Baths were built beside Scotman's Bay. They were to become one of the most popular bathing areas in the country. Proposed development of the site in 1997 was met with opposition from local people and since then controversy has raged about the future of the site.

Main Street Blackrock (today)
Colour photograph of Blackrock Main Street taken in 2005. This image illustrates the vast difference to the pace of life today as compared to 100 years ago. The modes of transport have changed and many of the shop fronts. The tramlines have vanished and the street shape has been altered with large pavement areas now to the fore.
