Gorse Meadow Habitat
Gorse Meadow Habitat
Gorse (Ulex europaeus) is beginning to take over this wet meadow. If left unchecked this wet meadow habitat will eventually develop into scrub. In time this will lead to a change in species composition from one that was predominantly grass and herbaceous plants to one that is mainly woody.

Nelson Street,Tralee 1908 (Postcard message)
Nelson Street,Tralee 1908 (Postcard message)
This second photogaph offers a number of contrasts and changes to the earlier postcard. It is perhaps ten years later. The townsmen, except for the young boys, show very little interest in the photographer.Indeed they appear to show no interest at all. The sender of the photograph refers to "Mr Donkey and cart standing in the street" The barrels of porter were a common feature of the town in 1908 and for many years later. The trees attached to the Church of Ireland presbytery are now enclosed by a wall which stood until recent times (postcard message )

Bridge Street, Boyle, late 1800's
Bridge Street, Boyle, late 1800's
This colour tinted Woolstone postcard of Bridge Street, looking towards Green Street, was possibly taken late in the 1800's. According to Slater's Directory of 1881 Darcy's general draper, now Ryan's Pharmacy, the building in the centre of the shot and on the corner, did not yet exist. The block on the right of the card are Frank Cunningham's Bar, Ann Wynne's Bar, Casserly's Grocery and MacDonagh's Booksellers. The block on the left of the photo starts with Coleman's Egg Stores, Pat Walsh's Grocery Shop and general merchant, and Boles drapery store.
