Coffee House, Dún Laoghaire
A view of the famous coffee house that dominated the village of Dunleary. An engraving by John Martyn after a painting by Robert Titus Wyke. It was built some time before 1756, and provided a service to summer visitors and disembarking passengers whom the local fishermen took ashore here. In the image the small sailboats and row boats can be seen entering the creek of Dunleary, perhaps after taking off passengers from ships awaiting the conditions to enter the Liffey estuary.
