The front cover of “Suibhne” (Sweeney) a 1987 collection of poetry by Donegal author Cathal O Searcaigh. On the front of the cover there is a small colour reproduction of an original painting by artist Caroline Price of a mountain scene, possibly in County Donegal. This depicts a sheep grazing near barbed wire fencing on which are caught pieces of fleece. In the background a rugged mountain peak looms.

Overlooking the valley from Cashelnagor
The view of the valley from Caiseal na gCorr, home of Donegal author Cathal O Searcaigh. This black and white landscape photograph was taken by renowned Dutch photographic artist Jan Voster. A frequent visitor to “O Searcaigh country,” Jan Voster, in collaboration with O Searcaigh, produced a book of related photography and poetry. “Caiseal na gCorr” was published in 2002 with financial support from Donegal County Council, the Arts Council, and Udaras na Gaeltachta.

The Red Horizon
Front cover of Patrick MacGill’s book, The Red Horizon. This is the cover of an edition published in 1984 by Brandon Book Publishers Ltd, Dingle, Co.Kerry, Ireland. This book was originally published in 1916. Giving a journalistic account of war at the front it was the sequel to his book The Amateur Army (1915). Articulating his experiences he conveys the tragedy of war and the strength of men.
