Castle Street Distillery -Front Elevation
Built c 1800, on the banks of the camcor river by the Robinson family, this distillery was producing 70,252 gallons per year of whiskey by 1832. This was one of three distilleries in the town, the others located at Elmgrove and Moorpark. Robinson’s distillery in Castle Street closed as a distillery in 1848. Afterwards the buildings were used by the Wallace Williams company for barley malting

County Carlow Infirmary, Front Elevation 1838
The County Carlow Infirmary was designed by architect John B. Keane in 1838. It consisted of two floors. The Surgery, post operative wards for males and females, Matron’s quarters, kitchen and larder and the ‘Dead House’ were on the ground floor. The upper floor contained three male wards, two female wards and a nurses ward. There were separate courtyards for males and females out of doors.The image shows the central portion of the building designed in the Jacobean style. It was flanked by two gabled wings. Over each window was a drip mould.The builder for the project was James Johnston. The building has since been demolished.

Architectural detail from the Triumphal Arch at Oakpark. It depicts the upper portion of one set of twin columns with architrave and moulding. The arch also features a dentil, a series of closely spaced rectangular blocks beneath the corona and cornice. The Ionic columns feature volutes which are typical of the style, and plain shafts. The twin columns flank the archway leading to the main entrance drive of Oakpark House former home of the Bruen Family.

Concerts and Lectures were held at the Assembly Rooms during the nineteenth century. An advertisement from “The Carlow Post” 5th, February 1859 announces the holding there of two public lectures. The text was as follows: The Assembly Rooms. Carlow Catholic Institute Lectures by the Rev W.H. Anderdon, M. A., Dean of the Catholic University, on Monday and Tuesday 7th and 8th Instant [1859]. The Rev. Dr. Anderdon will deliver two lectures at the Assembly-Rooms, Carlow for the benefit of the Carlow Catholic Institute. FIRST LECTURE: “Poetry and the Poets,”SECOND LECTURE :“Recollections of a Tour in Greece” commencing each Evening at Half past Seven o’clock. Terms of admission - Front Seats, Is Back do., 6d.
