Programme of Events 1992 Festival

The programme of events for the 1992 Harp festival lists the competitions, the instrument workshops and the musicians giving them, the lectures and the entertainment events for that year's festival which took place from the 1st to the 4th of October.

O Carolan Pageant Programme

An O'Carolan festival was held in Kilmainhamwood in 1970 to celebrate the tricentenary of the birth of O'Carolan. Members of the pageant included Carolan as a boy and as an adult, Bridget Cruise, Mrs MacDermottroe and her husband and some of the patrons for whom Carolan composed music. The pageant was written and directed by Proinnsias O Duigneain. The whole community was involved in the production which had an elaborate script, thirteen different scenes, various stage sets, multiple props and a small army of actors and stage assistants. The pageant was performed six times in June and July 1970.

O Carolan bas-relief

This memorial to O Carolan was presented to St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin by a Lady Morgan. It is in the north aisle of the church. It depicts a seated O Carolan playing the harp.

Portrait of Carolan the Irish bard

James Christopher Timbrell (1807-1850), the Dublin born painter and sculptor, exhibited this painting of Carolan the Irish Bard at the Royal Academy in London in 1844. Carolan is shown as he would have performed for a patron and guests in one of the Big Houses of Ireland.

Harp lesson with Dearbhail Finnegan at Nobber

The Meath Harp School was set up under the auspices of the Harp Festival to provide expert tuition to harp students. Dearbhail Finnegan teaches the harp and has brought students to a high level of competency.

Programme of Events 1993 Harp Festival

The Programme of Events for the 1993 Harp Festival lists the instrumental workshops, harp competitions, lectures and special events that were arranged for that year. The Chieftains appeared in concert. The Festival ran from the 30th of September to the 4th of October 1993.
