Nationally, producer responsibility initiatives & food waste in 2018 remained 'Below Target'. However, Ireland is broadly meeting its current recovery targets in this area (EPA, 2020). Specific areas of interest within this include:
- Enforcement of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations decreased from on ‘Target’ in 2017 to ‘Below Target’ in 2018.
- Battery Inspections remained ‘Below Target’ between 2016 and 2018.
- Enforcement of Tyre and Food Waste Inspections were also ‘Below Target’ in 2018.
Targets across producer responsibility initiatives and food waste are likely to become more stringent in the future owing to increased national and EU regulations (EPA, 2020).
