What can I do about bad light?
Security
Light Bulb
Traditional light bulbs use more energy than modern energy saving light bulbs. It is more energy efficient to use a light bulb of lower wattage and it can avoid unnecessary light pollution

Using better lighting does not reduce your home or premises security. Security is increased by eliminating blinding lights and deep shadows. By directing light downwards it becomes easier to see unwanted activity.
Reducing glare also increases the efficiency of security cameras since they are not swamped out by overly bright lights. Leaving lights permanently on is unlikely to be a good crime deterrent.
Using a sensor that causes the light to go off is much more effective. This will immediately draw attention to the area. For home security, internal lights and radios can also be controlled with a timer to give the impression that someone is at home.
How can I find out more?
The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) has members all over the world and regional groups in many European countries, while Dark Sky Ireland are dedicated to promoting and preserving dark skies over Ireland. The Irish Light Pollution Awareness Campaign (ILPAC), the Irish section of the IDA, promotes better lighting in Ireland
The Institution of Lighting Professional (ILP) has information for both public and professionals on their website.
