Have you ever seen cod up close? It has small, grey-brown scales and  a white belly. If you look very closely, you can see a small whisker on its chin. This is called a 'babel'.

Female cod  can lay several hundred thousand eggs at once!

Cod is a very popular food in Ireland. However, there is a lot less cod than there used to be. Climate change is part of the problem. We must also be careful not to overfish for cod.

Did you know? Cod could live for 30 years.
