© Cork City Libraries. All playground equipment installed in public areas must conform to European Union safety standards. This means that the equipment must be designed so children can play without the danger of serious injury. For example, each piece of equipment stands on rubberised surfacing tiles, which help to lessen the impact of a slip or bang.

Weekly and monthly reports of the inspections are then put into a book so they can be read over by other inspectors. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) carries out an independent inspection every year.
As well as being a fun play area, the Lough Playground is also extremely safe, and you can go and feed the swans after your playtime.
