  • Blanchardstown Through Time

Bridges are plentiful in the Blanchardstown area. Not only are they needed to cross waterways, such as the Tolka River and the Royal Canal, but bridges are also necessary for crossing the M50 and over train tracks, avoiding accidents.

In this old, tinted photograph, we see a bridge that crossed the Tolka River in the Abbotstown area. This photograph dates from around 1900.

This railway bridge at Castleknock Railway Station allows traffic and pedestrians to cross safely over the train tracks.

The M50 has numerous bridges, or flyovers, allowing traffic to pass overhead.

These bridges are very important. Without them, Blanchardstown would be cut off from Castleknock.
