Thatched cottages or houses are a traditional type of dwelling that can still be seen in certain parts of Ireland today. Though not as common in Limerick now as they were in the past, they still exist in certain parts of the county.

Thatch can be made from reeds or straw. It is dried and cut to shape the roof by skillful workmen.
